Who Will Raise Your Children if Something Happens to You? If You Don't Make a Plan, a Judge Will Decide for You.
Our Guardian Workshop is a great first stop to making sure that your family is taken care of, no matter what.
During this online workshop, attorney Jenny Ling will guide you through the process of nominating guardians for your children. A subsequent in person appointment will be scheduled to execute your guardian nomination.
Parents will complete documentation to nominate guardians for your children, thus it is essential that both parents make the time to attend.
FAQs What does the Workshop include?
Advice and counseling on how and who to name as legal guardians for your children. You will also complete a Limited Power of Attorney for your minor children naming guardians. We will make a short in-person meeting to sign and notarize the document. What will be covered at the workshop versus what will we need to follow-up on afterward?
The workshop will take you through the process of how to make a decision around choosing a legal guardian and provide information on estate planning. You will still need to meet with an attorney to draft your Will, Durable Powers of Attorney, Health Care Directive, and for some, a Trust. Do we need to know who we would want to for guardians prior to the workshop?
The purpose of the workshop is to help parents name guardians for their children. While it is not necessary, some parents come with some ideas about who they want and are looking for guidance on finalizing who to name as guardians. Many parents come with no prior lists of guardians and Jenny is able to assist you and your spouse to get on the same page to select the right guardians for your children. Is the workshop open to same sex and adoptive parents?
Yes, the workshop is open to same sex and adoptive parents as long as they have completed the proper legal documentation indicating that both spouses are the only parents and no one else can make decisions for the children. I am a single parent. Can I attend?
If you are a single parent please, additional considerations need to be made that are outside the scope of this workshop. Please email workshop@jennylinglaw.com or call our office at 206-859-5098 for further assistance.
