2023 PNW Public Safety Summit

The first in our 2023 Summit Series, the 2023 Public Safety Summit will bring together subject matter experts, industry leaders, business owners, and community members to provide insight into trends, public safety plans and resources. 

The future of Public Safety is emerging all around us. Rapidly evolving public demands, powerful social and digital technologies, and new methods of engaging with the community are upending past practices in policing and opening up entirely new models of community safety. Now is the time for public safety leaders to not just respond to change – but lead into the emerging future.

Leading into the future of public safety will mean embracing diverse voices, designing new policing services, and building agility and wellness into organizational culture. And perhaps, most importantly, ensuring progress will require leaders to foster the energy, creativity, and endurance within themselves and their teams to press ahead in the face of complexity and uncertainty. In essence, this moment in policing presents the challenge of a lifetime.

The program will include 5 panels outlined below: 

• State of the Community Safety with Police Department Chiefs and Representatives from the cities of Burien, Tukwila, Normandy Park, SeaTac, Des Moines, and the Port of Seattle
• Retail Theft with the WA Retail Association, the Prosecutors office, Attorney General
• Diversion Programs with Westfield Southcenter, Glover Empowerment Mentoring, Tukwila PD
• Best Practices with CulinX, Westfield Southcenter, WAORCA, and WA Hospitality Association
• Cyber Security with vCTO Secure
• Why Inclusive Collaboration Matters with the Puget Sound Fire Authority

 

Our Land Acknowledgment:
As we gather, we respectfully acknowledge that our event is taking place on occupied Coast Salish land and that Seattle Southside Chamber is on the homelands of the Duwamish people. We pay respect to Coast Salish Elders past and present and extend that respect to their descendants and to all Indigenous people. 

Why do we recognize the land? 
To recognize the land is an expression of gratitude and appreciation to those whose territory you reside on and a way of honoring the Indigenous people who have been living and working on the land from time immemorial. It is important to understand the long-standing history that has brought you to reside on the land and to seek to understand your place within that history. Land acknowledgments do not exist in a past tense or historical context: colonialism is a current ongoing process, and we need to build the mindfulness of our present participation. It is also worth noting that acknowledging the land is Indigenous protocol.
