Workforce Discovery Lab (WDL) is an exciting summer youth program serving students in the Highline and Tukwila public school districts. Our mission is clear and impactful: to act as a bridge connecting education with real-world workforce opportunities. Through hands-on workshops and partnerships with local businesses, WDL gives students the chance to develop professional skills, explore a variety of career paths, and prepare for their future success.
Each summer, students participate in a fully immersive on-site workshops over the course of a week. These workshops introduce them to a diverse range of career fields, including technology, culinary arts, aviation, engineering, finance, business, photography, dance, medicine, politics, hospitality and more.
In addition to exploring these industries, WDL hosts a specialized masterclass designed to prepare students for future job opportunities. Topics include resume building, crafting an elevator pitch, taking professional headshots, mastering interview skills, and creating a standout LinkedIn profile.
At the end of the program, we hold a special graduation ceremony where students have the opportunity to share their experiences, insights, and personal growth with their family and friends. This celebration not only recognizes their hard work and achievements but also builds their confidence in public speaking and self-expression. To honor their commitment and the skills they’ve gained, each student is awarded a $500 stipend as a reward for their dedication to learning and professional development.
Workforce Discovery Lab is more than just a summer program, it’s a launching pad for students to discover their passions and confidently step into their futures.
As the Chamber's 501(c)(3) charitable enterprise, the Success Foundation promotes and improves the economic development opportunities of the Southside and its communities through education, workforce, and community development.
The Success Foundation promotes and improves the economic development opportunities of the Southside and its communities. It does so by participating in projects and conducting research related to education, workforce, and community development. As a charitable enterprise of the Chamber, the Success Foundation is dedicated to the success of our region in Southwest King County.
Success means a lot of different things to different people, but for the Chamber, it means that the people that live, work and enjoy the businesses, communities, and amenities in the Southside are invited to create and define their own success stories. Our community should be recognized as the place where businesses, residents, and community partners are able to live their best lives. With poverty rates in our community exceeding the state average, we know we have our work cut out for us as we focus on raising the tide for all in our region.
We also know that we can't do this work alone. Luckily, there are so many ways for community members to participate!
