SUMMARY:Government Affairs Committee
DESCRIPTION:The Governmental Affairs Committee focuses on the issues that matter most in our region and the communities we serve and notifies the Chamber Board when a specific position needs to be taken. The Seattle Southside Chamber is also part of the South Sound Chamber of Commerce Legislative Coalition (SSCCLC)\, whose collaborative advocacy efforts work to improve the business climate. The work of the Governmental Affairs committee allows the Chamber to serve as the voice of business at all levels of government including monitoring and advocating for legislative issues and concerns. \n\nThis committee meets monthly at the Chamber office\, if you are interested in serving on this committee or would like more information\, please contact Annie McGrath at Annie@seattlesouthsidechamber.com\n\n\nFor a complete list of the Chamber's Committees and schedules\, click here: https://www.seattlesouthsidechamber.com/committees\n\n\nOur Land Acknowledgment:\n\nAs we gather\, we respectfully acknowledge that our event is taking place on occupied Coast Salish land and that Seattle Southside Chamber is on the homelands of the Duwamish people. We pay respect to Coast Salish Elders past and present and extend that respect to their descendants and to all Indigenous people. \n\n\n\nWhy do we recognize the land? \n\nTo recognize the land is an expression of gratitude and appreciation to those whose territory you reside on and a way of honoring the Indigenous people who have been living and working on the land from time immemorial. It is important to understand the long-standing history that has brought you to reside on the land and to seek to understand your place within that history. Land acknowledgments do not exist in a past tense or historical context: colonialism is a current ongoing process\, and we need to build the mindfulness of our present participation. It is also worth noting that acknowledging the land is Indigenous protocol.\n\nhttp://www.lspirg.org/knowtheland
